Tips for being a great student


Tips for being a great student...

Before leaving school...
1.  Check your homework book to make sure you have written down all your assignments.
2. Make sure you have the materials you need to complete your assignments.

When you come home from school and are ready to begin your work...
       1.  Go to a quiet work space – no tv, texting, computers, conversations.
          2. Do what is most important &/or most difficult first.
a) Ask for help if you need assistance.
          3. Make a specific plan for studying,
not “study vocabulary,” but “recite words orally and then write sentences using words correctly
4. Stand up and stretch between tasks, but don’t get side-tracked from completing work.
a) Some students need to work in “chunks” or in short, concentrated groupings with activities in-between.
5. Put away all materials when you are finished.  Make sure your backpack is packed.
          a) Organize papers in correct folders.
          b) Check printer for any papers, if you used it.

Weekends...
1.  Make a schedule for the weekend – include family plans & activities.
a) Decide how many hours you will need to complete homework, study, & work on projects.
b) Do you need any supplies from stores?  Be sure to tell a grown up!
c) Don’t leave work until the last minute Sunday evening.
d) Organize and pack you backpack.
Everyday...
1.  Get a good night’s sleep.
2. Eat breakfast.
3. Don’t go through your backpack in the morning; leave it packed.
